What can McTimoney Treat And When to seek ?

McTimoney treatment can help relieve an animal's pain and restore movement after they've injured themselves. In the majority of cases, Mctimoney Practitioners see animals that have suffered injury due to trauma such as an accident, fall, bump or collision.

As a guide owners should consider seeking treatment if they observe:

In Horses:

  • Unlevelness, especially behind
  • Uneven wear of shoes
  • Sore or cold backs, uneven pressure from saddles or the saddle slipping to one side
  • Unexplained deterioration in usual performance
  • Asymmetry, such as stiffness on one rein, or a disunited canter
  • Unexplained resistances, such as napping, rearing, refusing, bucking, etc.
  • Uneven muscle development or atrophy

In Dogs:

  • Crying out when getting up or lying down
  • Difficulty climbing stairs or getting in/out or the car
  • Signs of discomfort when being stroked on their backs
  • Reluctance to exercise
  • Stiffness or pain after exercise
  • Uneven gait
  • Uneven muscle development or atrophy

However problems can also be caused by excess weight, conformation defects in dogs or incorrect foot balance and saddle fitting issues, or rider imbalance in the case of the horse. Particular breeds and working dogs can, in addition, suffer injury due to the nature of their work.

For example:
- An animal that races on a track in one direction, e.g .racing greyhounds or trottings horses are more susceptible to injuries on one side of the body.
- Agility dogs can be injured if they encounter a particularly difficult obstacle.
- Long backed and short legged breeds are also susceptible to injury.

  • Veterinary Permission An owner must always consult his or her veterinary surgeon BEFORE seeking McTimoney treatment as it is illegal for anyone to treat an animal without vets’ approval. Most vets are aware of the benefits of complementary treatments for animals and will readily give their permission for the animals to be adjusted.Declaration:I have been trained using McTimoney techniques but I am not a chiropractor.
